More than three years after our spunky grey tabby “Smarty”(namesake to our SmartyKat brand of cat products) made a run for it outside our offices, he’s back home with us thanks to a hardy constitution, several really nice people and a tiny ID microchip no bigger than a grain of rice.
Smarty was microchipped when we adopted him. The chip works kind of like a barcode for your pet, digitally storing owner information where it can't get lost - under your pet's skin.
We equipped Smarty with a collar and traditional ID tags too. But he broke free of those during his great escape. We never dreamed that that little microchip would ultimately be his ticket back home so many years later.
